hello from miche…
my story is stitched together by food, family, and the warmth that fills a home.
aevaura is about presence in the moment. a space where i share what i'm discovering as a result of my curiosity and connection with those around me—the recipes that comfort me, the teas that ground me, the places that inspire me. not as an expert, but as someone walking the path alongside you on this incredible giving planet.
here, i'll document the move, the traditions i'm carrying forward, and the new ones i'm eager to embrace. this is about building something authentic. this is real, and you belong here.
the beginning of everywhere...
some of my earliest understanding of love took shape around a table. we lived in a hundred-year-old row home in southeastern pennsylvania, and sundays were occasionally dotted with pa dutch pot roast and fruit salad. my family's filipino heritage brought flavors from our humble beginnings to our table. there were train rides in strasburg, aunt b's apple pie, and a sweet southern lady who introduced me to the joys of sweet tea and peach cobbler. it was where my love of chinese food started. i didn't know it then, but those flavors were quietly mapping out not just the food i’d love but the person i'd become.
pennsylvania is where my love of chinese food started. saturdays meant trips to the farmers market or flea markets. occasional summer trips to the art museum sparked my appreciation for beauty in everything. i learned patience by rolling lumpia—the rhythm of that task still comforts me today.
cooking wasn't a chore; it was an act of love. those years gifted me a deep appreciation for simplicity and rituals—values that guide aevaura today.
from the mitten state...
i arrived in the middle of the mitten knowing no one, but michigan became home. i was fully immersed in the arc of the seasons—snow-covered fields, long winters with cookie swaps and hot chocolate, and my growing collection of tea and wares.
living in the country deepened my connection with the earth and what it takes to get our food. i kept chickens and a pig, grew herbs and vegetables, and explored farmers markets. that's where i discovered seasonal cooking—letting the land guide my menu each month.
but it's the mornings i'll miss most. the smell of fresh air. roosters crowing. neighbor dogs barking. cows mooing in the distance. horses neighing beyond the tree line. that kind of peace doesn't leave you—it becomes part of who you are.
michigan taught me how to build community slowly, how to find peace in stillness. it's where i became myself.
to grackle country
soon, i'll trade croplined fields for wide open sky lines. i'm moving to austin with excitement—not because i'm running from anything, but because i'm open to what's ahead.
shortly after crossing the border at texarkana, i heard a loud cacophony only to discover it was the grackle-bassadors bellowing the ‘welcome to texas’ anthem. their loud sound greeted me instantaeously. in a strange way, it’s perfectly in harmony among the bustle and noise of the city.
i'm discovering new markets filled with pecans, peaches, and chiles. exploring how texas traditions might blend with the roots i've gathered. this move isn't an ending—it's simply another step forward, another chance to grow and learn.
what the whispering winds have shown me
growth lives in transition. discomfort leads to deeper self-awareness.
rituals create grounding. simple, daily practices offer stability and space for creativity.
food carries memory. when i roll lumpia, i'm honoring my heritage.
authenticity builds connection. people connect with truth, not perfection.
beauty is everywhere. each place teaches a different kind of beauty.
every day is a beginning. curiosity keeps us moving forward.
why aevaura?
aevaura is time + presence
aevaura is how i make sense of this unfolding journey. it's not about perfection—it's about presence in a particular moment. i want to share the real moments: recipes that don't turn out, the nerves of starting over, the small wonders i stumble upon, and the quiet joys of simple living.
i hope aevaura becomes a community—a place where others feel seen and encouraged to reflect on their own paths.
things i get asked...
why now? because now feels like the right moment to share with others what i've learned and continue learning. aevaura is an invitation to connect over food, travel, and the everyday journey of becoming.
what will you write about? personal stories, seasonal recipes, tea discoveries, reflections on transition and growth, travel notes, and moments of simple joy.
